Chasing Dreams – “I’m a Jillaroo Mate”
I was sitting in the middle of the outback in Australia thinking “I really miss doing beauty”
After nearly one year out of the industry chasing cows i needed to get back to what I love to do.
Don’t get me wrong I loved the outback, mustering cattle on horseback every day, camping with open fires
under the stars for weeks on end, driving 10 hours to the nearest rodeo for a weekend of bull riding competitions,
country music and drinking beers with a bbq. It had always been a big dream of mine and I’d finally done it yeeha!
Then one day i was sitting there thinking what I’m going to do when i get back to the UK and i started to jot down
my ideal salon business, i even thought of the name even though it’s not called that today.
So I headed back to the UK after my year in Australia and got to work.
I was lucky enough that I knew Wendy who owned the local hairdressers and she offered me a room to get me started.
Two years later I was bursting at the seems and desperate to expand and get some help when a property opposite came available.
I couldn’t believe my luck! it was the ideal size and being just opposite it meant that my current clients didn’t have to go very far.
Wendy was great she came to view it with me and encouraged me to expand, I cant thank her enough for her support.
It was such hard work! we basically stripped the inside and rebuilt it again in just three weeks working day and night.
I had lots of family and friends for help and support and my boyfriend at the time Aaron really made it all happen.
We finished it at 2am and opened the next day with a fully booked day at 9am the next morning!
The build tested our relationship massively as you can imagine and he actually said to me years later
that, that night before opening was when he realised he wanted to marry me he said that if we could do this together we could do anything.
Four years after opening I married that wonderful man that built my wonderful salon.
I’ve always been one to chase my dreams but it wouldn’t have ever been possible without the love and support
of all my family and friends and most of all, all my lovely clients who support me and my business.
